We have started building a small lap strake boat, a 11ft Skimmer. The Skimmer can be build as a wood and canvas model or like this all wood lap strake model.  The all wood model is even lighter than the canvas one.  In the picture I'm laying out the planking which is 1/4" thick cedar. The edges of the planking are beveled and lap over each other.  The laps are clinched nailed together to make a water tight joint.  Each of the planks are cut from live edge cedar planks which are selected, as much as is possible, because they curve the same direction that the plank is to be shaped.

Our shop cam has been a work in progress and there have been a few gliches in getting it to work smoothly and still be able to move it around the shop.  I think we have it working properly now and plus there are a few new features.  At the bottom of the shopcam page ther is an index of the images of the last five days of work in the shop. There is also a time lapse video of the last days work .  The video is all the days work condensed into about one minute!  The video yesterday shops me laying out the planking, cutting the planking out and fitting it on the boat.
